(I'm second from the left)
What’s up everyone? I have been spending the past few days going through all your blogs and I can’t tell you how excited I am to meet all of you! To give you some background information about myself – my name is Alex and I was born and raised in Singapore. I turned 21 in October and I will be a freshman at Wheaton College (IL) next fall. Because I am a Singaporean by citizenship, I was required to serve two years in the military after graduating from high school. While it was difficult to watch all my friends leave for college, it was also an awesome experience because it allowed me to mature and forced me to really lean on the Lord for support during times of adversity. Anyway, I was discharged over the summer and have been spending the last semester working at my old high school as a TA (I’m pretty sure I want to be a teacher after I graduate from college) and as an assistant coach (quarterbacks and special teams) for our football team. I also have been helping out as a Young Life leader on campus…
Just a few more facts about myself: I love God, people, Young Life, sports, writing letters, snow (sadly, we don’t get any over here in South East Asia), my Denver Broncos, stupid movies (napoleon dynamite might be the best of all time), deep conversations, and most music with the exception of hardcore screamo… I’m also a “social” introvert – I like being around people but need alone time to recharge if that makes sense…
Over the past couple of months, the Lord has been slowly nudging me in the direction of missions. It is my hope that by serving alongside all of you, I will be able to truly live out what Jesus says in Matthew 22:37-39 when he tells us to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,” and to “Love others as yourself.”
Hmmm. That’s about all I have for now – I’m beyond excited about this trip and would really love to get to know all of you before we meet in January! Please feel free to add me on facebook or shoot me an email at alex.lim1006@gmail.com!
In Christ,
Alex
