We have now been in Uganda for just over a week. The plane ride here was very long and tiring and I was barely able to get any sleep. Once we landed in Entebbe we took a bus ride over to a hostel, in Kampala, called the Red Chili where we tented for the night. Bright and early we left the hostel to drive to the Nile River. We got to go white water rafting which was a great time. My team’s raft flipped once near the end of our rafting trip, which was kind of scary, but still fun. That night we stayed travelled to Jinja and stayed in a really nice hostel. My team stayed all in one room with triple high bunk beds. The hostel had nice hot shower’s, which was an awesome surprise.

We travelled to Tororo to start our first days of ministry. When we arrived in Tororo, we all congregated in a church to separate off from our three teams. We met a lot of cute children and had our first African tea. We were taken back to the place where we are staying now, a small house with three rooms (just floors and mats) as well as a shower and a bathroom. We were able to have a day of rest the next day and just realx and become comfortable with where we are living. We met more kids where we are living. I brought a soccer ball for the children and they absolutely loved it. I forgot to bring it back inside with me and I haven’t seen it since.

We started ministry Sunday afternoon. We started off by going to the hospital to pray for the sick, however, we have only done door to door ministry since then. This has been a huge challenge for me and is stretching me every day.

My firsts so far…

  • I cleaned my laundry by hand

  • I used a squatty potty (Dislike)

  • Bucket showers

PS. Melted chocolate bars do not taste as good half melted!
